I kayak on Lakes and moving water both. After experiencing class III rapids, part of me would like to say that I prefer lakes. However, the more adventurous half say's GO FOR THE RAPIDS!
The first time I ever kayaked I set out alone on a creek in Minnesota called "Minnehaha Creek". I had just purchased a 14' sea kayak; that wasn't the best choice for water like this. However, I knew I'd tackle other waters.
The headwaters were slow, deep, and marshy. As I moved along, there were sections that were narrow and fast. Rapids here were never more than (approaching) class II, but I was a novice at best; class I freaked me out. I had been on this creek before but that was with an experienced friend in a canoe about 7 mi. down stream.
To cut a long story short; my end of the voyage came as I approached a narrow section with an entire tree down across the creek. I raced forward with no chance of banking my rig (again, I had no experience), I thought I'd lean forward to lessen the damage to self, no way! So I leaned backwards, hoping for the best.
As the bow of my boat crashed into the great log, it was pushed, submerged into the waters. As I passed under it myself, my hat flew off and my spine cracked from C-4 to L3. I had made it. However, I nearly crapped my pants. It was time to get out of the creek.
In less than a quarter mile I found my exit. I beached in a very muddy patch and learned I needed water boots.
I have been on many adventures since and plan to write about them. My second adventure was on Lake Superior.

Well that story made me laugh out loud! Can't wait for another tale from the angry sea.
